AP ENGLISH LITERATURE STANDARDS BASED GRADING
LA.1 - (Thesis Statement) I can write an effective thesis statement that communicates my analysis of the overall meaning of the text.
LA.2 - (Topic Sentences) I can write effective topic sentences that identify an author's choices and his purpose for those choices.
LA.3 - (Structure/Organization) I can organize complex ideas so that ideas build on one another to create a unified whole; I can use appropriate and varied transitions and syntax to link ideas and create cohesion.
LA.4 - (Evidence) I can develop my ideas thoroughly by selecting the most significant and relevant evidence; I can incorporate evidence skillfully to maintain the flow of ideas.
LA.5 - (Commentary) I can analyze the impact of the author's choices on the audience; I can connect evidence from the text to my analysis of the overall meaning of the text.
LA.6 - (Introduction) I can introduce my ideas by identifying the author and title of the text and providing relevant background information without over-relying on summarizing the text.
LA.7 - (Conclusion) I can provide a concluding statement that articulates the impact or significance of the author's ideas on the reader, audience, or world while avoiding summary of my own and/or the author's ideas.

POWER STANDARDS WRITING
PSW.1 I can write an interpretation of a piece of literature that is based on a careful observation of textual details, considering the work’s structure, style, and themes; the social and historical values it reflects and embodies; and such elements as the use of figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and tone.
PSW.2 I can compose in several forms (e.g., narrative, expository, analytical, and argumentative essays).
PSW.3 I can do writing that proceeds through several stages or drafts, with revision aided by teacher and peers.
PSW.4 I can write informally (e.g., response journals, textual annotations, collaborative writing).
